Our Vision

We are a community informed, collaborative solution to closing the educational gap, fostering positive esteem and encouraging retention and development of youth, young adults and professional talent throughout Flint and Genesse Count.

Our Mission

The Flint Freedom Schools Collaborative facilitates culturally relevant, literacy-focused programming, promotes equitable learning opportunities, and contributes to community-driven partnerships.

Our History

The Flint Freedom Schools Collaborative has its start in 2016 when Bethel United Methodist hosted its first CDF Freedom School summer program site, in response to the Flint Water Crisis. In 2018, the New Evolution Educational Center followed suit, hosting sites at Agape Church and Mt. Olive. In 2019, The Michigan Conference of the UMC and NEEC combined their efforts to form the Flint Freedom schools Collaborative (FFSC).
